History Of the City
Suwanee, GA began as a Native American village along the Chattahoochee River, where communities thrived. Officially recognized in 1837 with the establishment of a post office, the town gained further prominence when the Georgia Air Line Railroad arrived in 1871.
In 1880, the Rhodes House Hotel was constructed to accommodate railroad passengers, boosting local trade and economy. However, disaster struck in 1881 when a fire destroyed all buildings on Main Street except one.
Despite these challenges, Suwanee, GA’s population remained relatively stagnant from 1880 to 1920 (216 to just over 240). By contrast, by 2015 it had grown significantly to more than 18,000 residents.
